The center is decked out for fall and the fun of Halloween thanks to Donna Dyke, our site director. Thank you for your faithful service! We want to also wish her a happy birthday this month; as well as Anita Combs, Katherine Mullin, Martha Sliger, and Jack Thomas. We choose one day a month to celebrate with a birthday cake! Congratulations to John and Loretta Collier who celebrated their 63 rd wedding anniversary on October 10th. John says, “I picked her out of a line-up! Then he explained that his buddy showed him an accordian file filled with pictures of young women and told him to pick one and he would set up a blind date for the revival at the Del City First Southern Baptist Church they were going to later. That girl turned out to be Loretta Bird who happily became Mrs. Collier or his “Tweetie Bird”. We are also going to have a contest for the best Halloween costume again this year on the 29 th so be making plans to dress up. We are never to old to have fun! We want to remember Jack Thomas and our cook, Talia Hammons, and her mother, with our prayers for improved health. The food and fellowship of the Golden Age Center is a blessing.

But have you ever been betrayed? I have by some who were very close to me. Sometimes, I have been the one who betrayed someone through gossip for example. We have a word for those who make a practice of betrayal; it is “traitor”. Defined as “giving aid to the enemy”; it is the only crime defined in the Constitution. And the name of Benedict Arnold stands for traitor. He did not begin as a traitor to our country; in fact, he was a loyal soldier who fought with Washington in the American Revolution. What caused this man to become the essense of treason by changing sides and fighting for the British in the end? Historians have tried to answer that question with these 4 excuses. 1. He felt he had been slighted because he was overlooked for several promotions in the Continental Army. 2. He was bitter after he was severly wounded in battle. 3. Coming from an impoverished family caused him to be tempted to take bribes. 4. He was encouraged to switch sides by the Loyalist family of his 2 nd wife, Peggy Shippen. Whatever the reason, he provided information to the British as a spy from 1778 to 1780. Although Arnold was tried for treason, he escaped any punishment by eluding his captors to Canada. Probably, the only traitor more famous than Arnold was the apostle, Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver. May we never fall to these temptations, but remain faithful to our God, our family, our friends, and our country. Thankfully, we have forgiveness when we do fall. God bless America as we face the trials and betrayals that have resulted from the pandemic!
