Floyd Eugene Moody, 57, of Shawnee, OK, died due to COVID-19 on Sept. 23, 2021. Born in Dallas County, TX, Sept. 14, 1964, to Katherine Ramsey Moody, Floyd spent his childhood and much of his adult life in Tecumseh, OK.
As a high school student in Tecumseh, Floyd had a great passion and talent for sports. During Floyd’s time as a high school athlete, he was an All-District Line Backer, first string pitcher, and a full back. Floyd graduated in 1983 from Tecumseh High School.
Anyone who knew Floyd remembered his smile. He had a big personality that drew people in. His confidence and sense of humor were best described by his favorite song from high school, Mac Davis’s “Oh Lord, It’s Hard to be Humble.” Floyd enjoyed laughing, playing, hunting, and having a good time. However, he was never afraid of a deep conversation or to contemplate life’s hard questions.
Floyd spent his adulthood raising his children—taking them on camping trips, fishing, and teaching them to love and accept the world as it was. In addition to his children, Floyd had a passion for coaching. Floyd loved coaching all of his children. As a Tecumseh Youth League football and baseball coach, Floyd poured his heart into the young men on his team, both on and off the field. Floyd was there whether a child needed a new pair of cleats, a hug, or a place to stay. The impact of sports and the community of Tecumseh had on his childhood could be seen in his actions throughout his life.
