Lower Lights Keep Burning—Not

(Necessary introduction: Lighthouses alerted ships of dangerous rocks. Some lighthouses were on high hills to give the big ships the warning. Unfortunately, some places had dangerous rocks that were below the line of sight of the ships. To ensure safety, fires were often built near the rocks.

Throughout my years working in education, I had the opportunity to see how family circumstances can shape a child’s future. Strong families, supportive communities and clear guidance from adults all make a lasting difference.

Witnessing the march into military service

It happened after we had gone to the annual Memorial Day ceremony at Marshfield Cemetery in MO. My older son, who was around 14 at the time, told me he had decided he was joining the military when he got out of high school.

Sitting on the back deck with my first morning cup of java in hand, I listen to the birds and frogs and my dogs barking at anything that twitches. A slight end-of-summer chill surrounds me, but hot, steamy coffee, my favorite cardigan, and the rising sun warms my body as well as my soul.

Nutritious meals available to seniors

There are many issues that senior citizens face, and one of those may be having a daily nutritious meal. Thanks to the City of Tecumseh and Project HEART, anyone over 60 years of age may become a member of the Golden Age Center.We offer many activities for seniors besides meals.
