Post 16 Names Bingo Hall After Air Force Veteran

Retired Air Force Master Sergeant Tom Combs is a regular at American Legion Post 16 in Shawnee. He has been so dependable that the post named their bingo hall after him a year and a half ago. Combs said he has been to the post for meetings or to help with bingo every week for 24 years.

Lorena Leyva joined the US Navy in 2008 and is still serving in the Navy Reserves. She has completed two tours overseas in the fight against terrorism, most recently in Afghanistan in 2020. She has been an employee of the Social Security office since Dec. 2018.

A time of constant preparation—that’s what military service meant for Renée Clemmons. “You felt like you were ready at any point to respond to anything,” she said. She had enlisted in the Air Force Reserves as a teen, after taking a gap year, in approximately Feb. 1989.
