Atwood Named Tecumseh’s New City Attorney

Tecumseh City Council held a special meeting on Oct. 11 to discuss hiring a city attorney to replace the late Mike Warwick. Originally, two candidates expressed interest in the position. After learning the needs of the council, Daniel McLure withdrew his application due to time constraints.
Oklahoma City Community College English Professor Jeff Provine leads the Haunted Downtown Shawnee tour for about 25 people on Oct. 11. Provine said Hamburger King is said to be haunted by its founder, Joseph Macsas, as well as its former owners who can be heard moving furntiture upstairs, since it was a furniture store. The Community Matters event was hosted by the Shawnee Public Library. Provine is also the author of "Haunted Shawnee OK," and he held a book signing at The Arts at 317 earlier that day.

Shawnee Library Hosts Haunted Downtown Shawnee Tour

Whether someone believes in ghosts or not, a good ghost story is hard to resist, especially during October. They can also inform about the people connected to historic locations and their stories, which might not be remembered otherwise.

New Security System Coming To Tecumseh Public Schools

The October Tecumseh School Board Meeting was held on the 14th, which coincidently fell on the Federal holiday, Columbus Day, and the State holiday, Indigenous Peoples’ Day. During the meeting’s public comments portion, Victor Cope read about the Indian Holocaust as a result of Christopher Columbus.
People of all ages participated in the House of Hope Third Annual Color Fun Run, including the winner of the "Oldest Female" Award, Suzanne Smith of Shawnee (#226). Smith said, "It was fun. Growing up in Shawnee during World War II, Larry Smith’s first bicycle was his mother’s step-through, which she didn’t like. He began riding when he was five or six and said everyone rode bikes around town back then.
