Sanity’s Last Stand

Fires drew nearer as we packed our campervan and minivan taking a bare minimum of clothing, and everything we keep packed for camping—water, our routine meds, dog food, and sleeping bags. We rallied the neighbors to do the same and then waited. And waited.

Vote YES, April 1

In 2016, the citizens of Pottawatomie County voted to pass a half-cent sales tax for our schools. This is a very unique tax in the state and allows our schools to purchase things they otherwise would not be able to easily have access to.

Light years before smart boards, smartphones, and computer nerds, I used Big Chief tablets to aid me in doing my lessons. For our younger readers, Big Chief tablets were about 45 sheets of paper that were just slightly brighter than a cardboard box!

Senate Report

The Senate just passed the committee deadline for bills to clear their first hurdle of the legislative session. Of the 1,141 pieces of legislation filed at the beginning of the session, more than 500 advanced from committees before the deadline.

Night Sky Report

Snow and sub-freezing temperatures do NOT make for good viewing conditions! While some of the evenings provided us with clear, steady skies and very low humidity (creating high contrast conditions), the low temperatures were and are problematic for a lot of us.
