CVEC Invites seniors to apply for scholarship

Seminole, OK. - Canadian Valley Electric Cooperative (CVEC) is proud to announce the opening of applications for the 2026 Operation Round Up Scholarship. This initiative is designed to financially support students pursuing higher education through college, university, or technical schools.

Seniors Stay Active at Shawnee Rec Center

Hello Shawnee! Each week, the Shawnee Recreation Center located at 401 N. Bell, formerly called the Senior Center, offers classes and programs for individuals age 55+.

A record-breaking crowd and auction total highlighted this year’s Pottawatomie County Junior Livestock Show Pig Roast & Trophy Auction, as supporters packed the venue to celebrate local agricultural youth and raise unprecedented funds for the program.

Bolt, noted as “no relation to Ed,” by Animal Control Officer Rice, was the Pet of the Month and introduced to the board. Bolt is a Pomeranian mix who isn’t expected to last long at the shelter. Rice confirmed that smaller dogs tend to be adopted at a much faster rate.

Forensic Criminology now offered at THS

Tecumseh High School’s forensic criminology class is a new addition to the school’s long list of extracurriculars. Following a curriculum by Learn-Engines, students are given the opportunity to experience what it would be like to work at a real crime scene.

Schedule changes discussed by SPS Board

CORRECTION: It was inadvertently reported in this article that the Shawnee elementary schools would start at 7 am, beginning on Feb. 17, as stated at the time of publication on the Shawnee Public Schools website. The correct time should be 7:30 am. Sorry for any confusion this caused.

Tecumseh band teacher receives ECOBDA Band Director of the Year

On Jan. 10, Tecumseh Public Schools Band Director John Outon was named the East Central Oklahoma Band Directors Association (ECOBDA) Band Director of the Year at East Central University (ECU).After being a member of the ECOBDA for 26 years, Outon said the experience is “humbling.
