The Citizen Potawatomi Nation broke ground on a new hotel and casino on Thursday, Sept. 14. Chairman John ‘Rocky’ Barrett welcomed guests to the groundbreaking ceremony with a prayer in the Potawatomi language.
The OKC Veterans Affairs Health Care System leadership, Shawnee VA Clinic Staff and the Shawnee VA Clinic Facility Manager Nicole Hall, along with the building lessors, cut the ribbon during the Grand Reopening of the Shawnee VA Clinic on Sept. 18 - one year after it first opened. Dance Added To Farmhand Olympics In 14th Year

Since 2009, the Farmhand Olympics have been a way for agriculture students across Pottawatomie County to have fun together in friendly competition before showing their livestock or exhibits at the Pott. Co. Free Fair. This year, on Sept. 6, the Junior Fair Board members decided to add a dance.

Shawnee VA Clinic To Re-Open After Tornado

On April 19, an EF-2 tornado tore through the town of Shawnee and destroyed many homes and businesses, including the Oklahoma City Veterans Affairs Community Based Outpatient Clinic.
Members of the Shawnee Veterans Memorial Committee and a few others toured the former Shawnee Carnegie Library - and most recently District Attorney's Office - on Sept. 5 in consideration of turning it into a Veterans Museum. Pottawatomie County jail officials apparently defied state laws and a judge’s order when they concealed information on the unexplained deaths of seven vulnerable detainees. All seven people arrived at the jail with medical and mental health or substance use complications that required care.

Shawnee Little Theatre (SLT) will begin its 56th year of producing live local theatre when the musical “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” opens Sept. 22 at the community theatre. Performances are Sept. 22, 23, 27, 28, 29, and 30 at 7:30 pm; and September 24 at 2 pm.
