Work Continues In Preparation For The IFYR

The Shawnee Civic & Cultural Development Authority is getting ready for the 32nd International Finals Youth Rodeo. But there are still a few obstacles to clear before the contestants arrive.
About 75 people participated in the United in Strength Stroll on April 19, recognizing the one-year anniversary of the 2023 tornado. Following a proclamation by Shawnee Mayor Ed Bolt and speeches from John Bobb-Semple, of POGO; Heath Thomas, of OBU; Dr. Aaron Espolt, of Shawnee Public Schools; and Sandy Vanderburg, of United Way of Pottawatomie County, they walked from OBU to the YMCA. About 75 people gathered in front of the Oklahoma Baptist University Geiger Center on the one-year anniversary of the April 19, 2023, tornado in Shawnee.They listened as Shawnee Mayor Ed Bolt proclaimed it to be United in Strength Day.

During the Shawnee City Commission meeting on Monday, April 15th, there was standing room only. While some citizens attended the meeting to express their views on controversial topics, the majority of the overflow was comprised of students, who were there to be recognized, and their families.
