Tecumseh Students Prepare For Wizard Of Oz

In her first year of teaching, Tecumseh’s Choir Director Becky Rhodes knew she would be expected to produce a musical. But she came prepared with one in mind.During her middle school years, Rhodes had played Glinda, the Good Witch, in “The Wizard of Oz” and had good memories of the experience.

Local High School Talent Featured In MGMoA Exhibit

Shawnee, OK – The Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art is showing the High School Juried Art Exhibit which features 188 works by 106 artists from Prague High School, Bethel High School, North Rock Creek High School, Tecumseh High School, Earlsboro High School, and the Oklahoma Bible Academy.

United Way Organizes Tornado Outreach, Helps 22 Families

After a year of tornado recovery in Shawnee, there are still some people who are waiting for repairs to happen. It was with this in mind that 23 volunteers met at the Big Lots parking lots, split into groups, and went out into Shawnee neighborhoods to hand out resource information bags.

Shawnee School Board Welcomes Two New Members

After a special meeting held on April 12, the Shawnee Public School Board of Education has changed in a couple of ways.Following the election on April 2, two new board members took the oath of office. Office 2 has been filled by Jeanne Swinney, and Office 4 is now served by Mandy Hillhouse.

Bethel Band Boosters Car Show Attracts Over 100 Entries

The 8th Annual Bethel Band Boosters Car Show Fundraiser was held at Bethel High School on April 13, and there were 136 entries. This included those in the new BHS Student division and the Quad Motorcycle division, said Coordinator Christina Corry.

For some of the 22 people on the Tecumseh Walking Audit, it was a walk in the park. But for others, it was an uphill climb. Like it was pointed out, everyone has a different experience.

Families view projects at the Cross Timbers Elementary Science Fair on March 26. There were 113 fifth-grade science fair projects on display with ribbons and 10 gold medals presented by three volunteer judges.

Several hangars and airplanes were also damaged. Distributions for repairs from insurance and FEMA are slowly trickling in, said Shawnee City Manager Andrea Weckmueller-Behringer and Assistant City Manager Danny Vise.

One Year Later, Recovery Continues

As of tomorrow, April 19, Shawnee has been healing from its tornado wounds for one year. Some of them have completely healed, and some are still waiting.One of the biggest wounds that the City of Shawnee has been working on is the Shawnee Regional Airport.
