With warmer temperatures and sunshine, the City of Shawnee has closed its emergency warming shelter for the homeless. The emergency shelter was housed in the gym of the C3 Cross Connection Church, located at 329 N Pesotum Avenue.

More than half a century after Bethel Acres first became a town Bethel Acres citizens have voted to approve a charter. The town split from Shawnee in 1962, according to the City of Shawnee website, and while a charter was created for Bethel Acres, it was never formally put in place.

A special meeting was set for Feb. 24 at noon in the Shawnee Public Schools Administration Building, during the Feb. 7 Shawnee Board of Education meeting. It will be held for the sale of $865,000 in taxable bonds and “designating bond counsel for the issuance of bonds.
