The tornado that struck the Shawnee area on April 20 did extensive damage to the region’s communications networks, causing a voice and internet outage impacting Kinetic by Windstream customers in Tecumseh.

More than 20 emergency management units and agencies responded to the EF0 tornado, which left a wave of destruction across Shawnee on April 19.

Bethel’s 1 Day Ranch Rescue Works Toward Tornado Recovery

April 19 was a usual evening at the 1 Day Ranch Rescue, in Bethel. The 64 animals in their care had their nighttime feeding; horses were stalled or pastured; and last minute birthday preparations were being made.
A tornado tore through Pottawatomie County Wednesday, Apr. 19, leaving massive destruction in its path. The Boom-a-Rang located on MacArthur was in the path and received catastrophic damage, but the nostalgic photos still hang on the wal inside the building. Tornadoes Tear Through Shawnee And County

One week after tornadoes tore through communities in Pottawatomie County, businesses are beginning to re-open, but there is still a lot of work left to do. A lot of work has been completed with new poles placed, lines run and trees moved to the curb.

Oops, we made a mistake and would like to correct the information found in the Tecumseh City Council story last week. It was reported that there would be a $6 increase on the utility bill. We have been informed that the $6 that was approved was not an increase.

The city of Shawnee and Pioneer Library System are bidding farewell to a friendly face this month. After over three decades of serving Oklahomans, Shawnee Public Library Branch Manager and PLS Regional Coordinator Peggy Cook is set to retire at the end of the month.
Girl Scout members were present at the Shawnee City Commission meeting Monday, Apr. 10 and were presented with the Arbor Day Proclamation presented by Shawnee Mayor Ed Bolt. Bolt said the troop was helpful in planting trees recently distributed in Shawnee.
