OBU Honors 287 Graduates During Spring Commencement

Oklahoma Baptist University conferreddegrees upon 287 students during Spring Commencement Saturday, May 21. The ceremony took place in Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium. Thomas Hill, chief executive officer of Kimray in Oklahoma City, delivered the commencement address.

County approves multiple OMMA compliance applications

To beat the moratorium deadline, eleven businesses submitted OMMA Certificates of Compliance paperwork to the Pottawatomie County Board of County Commissioners. All were approved, and Emergency Manager Chad Lawrence said there were already more for next week’s meeting.

The Cornstock Tournament was held on June 11 in downtown Shawnee. It was a fundraiser for the Cops n' Kids event, which will be held on Aug. 27, 11 am-4 pm, at the Heart of Oklahoma Expo Center.

New fund honors the memory of Michelle O’Neal

The Bethel School Board opened the meeting Monday, June 13, with the presentation of a shadow box in memory of Michelle O’Neal.
Michelle was a Bethel alumni and worked in the cafeteria before her passing. Many loved her, and she touched the lives of all who knew her.

Tecumseh School Board prepares for 2022-2023 school year

At the recommendation of Superintendent Robert Kinsey, the Tecumseh school board approved a slew of contracts for the 2022-2023 school year at their June 13 meeting.
Most notably, the board approved an insurance bid from the Oklahoma Schools Insurance Group (OSIG) for the 2022-2023 school year.

There’s a new office manager at the “Countywide & Sun,” but her face and name may be familiar to some subscribers.
In 1991, Julie Talton began working as a photographer for the “Shawnee Sun” in sixth grade, when she would come to work with her mother, Vicki Duff.
