Tecumseh Teen Participates In 4-H Leadership Conference

Pottawatomie County 4-H Clubs Secretary Kimberly Holland of Tecumseh recently returned from the 4-H Senior Leadership Retreat in New Mexico.But it turned out to be a completely different trip from what was planned.“This year’s trip had 34 Oklahoma delegates and four adult chaperones.

Agriculture students make an impact with new FUB contest

First United Bank (FUB) in Shawnee set a new challenge for the agriculture students in Pottawatomie County.Between Nov. 4 and Dec. 4, 2024, they were to “compete to see who can make the biggest impact through three key activities,” according to a letter to agriculture teachers.

State 4-H Ambassador Applications due March 15Applications for 2025-2026 State 4-H Ambassador will be available starting Dec. 15 on the State 4-H Ambassador website. Application materials will also be mailed to county Extension offices.

It all started in 2020 when the Hobbs family made Valentine’s Day cards for the residents of Seminole Care and Rehab.A relative of theirs, Courtney Branch, works there, and that experience inspired the current Pottawatomie County 4-H Reporter Grace Hobbs to continue the tradition.

Six Students From Pottawatomie County Achieve American FFA Degrees

The American FFA Degree is the highest achievement in the Future Farmers of America, and Pottawatomie County has six recipients this year.

Bethel Sisters Win Santa Gertrudis Junior Class At State Fair

For sisters Grace and Callie Loman of Bethel, this year has been one of firsts.Most recently, they showed their seven-month-old Santa Gertrudis heifers - Harley Quin and Dakota - at the Pottawatomie County Free Fair and the Oklahoma State Fair for the first time.

Flowers Plants Himself as New McLoud Ag Teacher After 14-Year Hiatus

As with the seasons in farming, the Flowers family has been going through a time of transition and new beginnings.Sarah Flowers, who was active in FFA during high school, taught in Tecumseh for six years before serving as the Tecumseh Middle School principal for another six years.

Tecumseh Senior Wins First At JNHE Speech Contest

Taylor Marrs, who will be a senior at Tecumseh High School this year, has been competing in the Junior National Hereford Exposition speech contest since he was 10 years old in 2017.This year, he won first place in the 25th Annual JNHE Advanced Speech Contest Intermediate Division.
