The sky over Kickapoo Casino in Shawnee is filled with exploding fireworks for the finale on July 2. Kickapoo Casino's show was the first fireworks show in the area, followed by FireLake Casino on July 3 and The Grand Casino on July 4. Countywide & Sun/Natasha Dunagan

Bethel School Approves Raises

Library Learning Fun Continues

On Wednesday, June 21, the Tecumseh Public Library hosted an art class for teenagers as part of their Summer Learning Challenge. Lizzy Brady, the owner of SageBrush Designs, led the class. Brady has painted several pieces of window art in Mcloud, Shawnee, Tecumseh, Harrah, Earlsboro, and more.

Band Director John Outon said they are raising money for a small band trip this year and their big Washington, DC and New York City trip in three years. This is the fourth year for them to sell fireworks, and the stand is open by Thunderbird Casino on Gordon Cooper Drive through July 5 every day, 9 am-10 pm, & 9 am-11 pm, starting June 30.

School Board Pays Tribute To Dr. April Grace

The Shawnee Board of Education held their last meeting of the fiscal year on June 27. And it was also Superintendent Dr. April Grace’s last meeting before her retirement. There were a few people who spoke about Grace and shared the impact she has had in her seven years as superintendent.

Pioneer Library System Receives Award
