Spring has arrived. The Bradford Pear trees are in full bloom around the building so that our members are uplifted as they enjoy good food, fun, and fellowship. We welcome two new members: Lois Gee and Nola Dobbins.

This week at the House, we spent hours on the floor each day hearing, debating and voting on bills. Ultimately, we heard 163 bills, but that still leaves 380 House bills that are eligible to be considered in the coming weeks. We have until Thursday, March 23 to hear these remaining bills.

History Being Made

There was some history being made last week, and the high school athletes from Pottawatomie County were right smack dab in the middle of it all. Four area teams fought their way to the Big House last week.

Through an unbelievable set of circumstances, my wife and I met the defending world champion high school robotics team last Friday evening at a local restaurant. The Up-The-Creek members were from Colorado and were in Shawnee participating in the Oklahoma Regional First Robotics Competition.

Last week at the Capitol was packed with dozens of committee meetings as legislators hurried to ensure their bills were passed ahead of Thursday’s committee deadline. In addition to attending meetings for the committees I sit on, I passed two of my own bills out of their committees this week.

The Golden Age Center is open to everyone who is over 60 years of age, regardless of race. With the celebration of Black History in February, I want to honor the greatest basketball player of all time, who turned 60 years of age on Feb. 17th.

We’re Not Ready

Tuesday, Mar. 7, voters will go to the polls to decide whether to make recreational marijuana legal in Oklahoma. Just a few short years ago, in 2016, medical marijuana was approved and then implemented in 2018. It is used to alleviate pain and relieve anxiety.
