Road projects lead county agenda

Road work-related agenda items were the big news of the day at the weekly Pottawatomie County Board of County Commissioners meeting held Tuesday, Aug. 4.Dist. 1 Commissioner and Board Chair Melissa Dennis received approval to rebid road prep and road stabilization work.

Request for Absentee Ballot due Aug. 10

The deadline to request absentee ballots by mail is approaching. Applications must be received by the County Election Board no later than 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10.

Quilts donated to Sheriff's Office

The Shawnee Spinning Spools Quilt Guild donated 21 quilts, throw-size or larger, to the Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Office on July 31. Victim Advocate Nikki Partain said the quilts will be given to anyone who needs comforting while deputies are on calls.

Cops N’ Kids, Aug. 22

The Eighth Annual Cops N’ Kids is returning to the Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center on Aug. 22 from 11 am to 2 pm.It will feature 35 law enforcement and first responder agencies and around 25 business and nonprofit organization booths, said Cpl.

Saturday night, more than 160 people came together for the inaugural Shootin’ & Scootin’ for Justice, proving that protecting children isn’t the responsibility of one person or one agency—it’s the responsibility of an entire community.
