The Shawnee Board of City Commissioners held a Special Meeting on Aug. 5 at 3 pm to consider a Contract for Economic Development Services Between the City of Shawnee and Shawnee Forward.In attendance were Commissioners Mark Sehorn, Chris Odneal, Greta Shuler and Daniel Matthews.

A motion to pay $3,150 in membership dues to Shawnee Forward died for lack of a second after an extensive discussion by county commissioners during the meeting held Tuesday, Aug. 11.
"MilkyWay," owned by Bill and Tiffany Kinser of Guthrie, is lit up during the balloon glow on Saturday, Aug. 8, at the FireLake Fireflight Balloon Festival. According to www.planoballoonfest.org, hot-air balloons use liquid propane gas in their burner systems, which shoot out a six- to eight-foot flame and produce up to 12 million BTUs per hour. A family gets their free snow cones from The Snow Shak during the Sixth Annual Shawnee BancFirst Back to School Bash on Aug. 6. In addition to free snow cones, BancFirst gave away free hot dogs and backpacks full of school supplies. Shannon Chandler, BancFirst Regional Sales and Marketing Coordinator, said they had between 100 to 150 people attend the Shawnee event and around 100 in total at the Tecumseh and Mc-Loud events this year.
