Macomb cuts ribbon on new playground

The students in Macomb’s 21st CCLC (Century Community Learning Centers) After School and Summer Program got an extra recess on Feb. 6.The community was invited to help celebrate the grand opening of a new playground at Macomb Elementary School, along with their annual Kindness Dinner.
The Tecumseh School Board meeting room at Cross Timbers Elementary drew a crowd of people wanting to voice their opinion concerning the school mascot Monday, Feb. 13. For over an hour during public comments, board members heard from attendees on both sides of the controversy. This was not an agenda item therefore no vote was taken. Countywide & Sun/Julie Talton

Savage mascot stirs strong opinions

Sparked from a Facebook post requesting support from the community for Victor Cope’s monthly board meeting pleas to eliminate the Savage name, the February Tecumseh school board meeting was standing room only.

Sgt. Dennis Raines Named Officer of the Year

In September 2024, Sergeant Dennis Raines responded to the scene of a stabbing and found the victim lying in a parking lot with two wounds. Raines applied compression gauze and kept pressure on the wounds while talking with the victim to keep him or her conscious.

Registration for Tecumseh Chamber Auction ends Today

Today (Feb. 6) is the last day to register for the Tecumseh Chamber of Commerce “A Night in Tuscany” Annual Auction. The event will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at the Grand Casino Hotel and Resort Ballroom, beginning at 6 pm.

County approves rifle purchases and summit sponsorship

During the Feb. 4 meeting, the Pottawatomie County Board of County Commissioners approved $37,787 for the purchase of new rifles, sights, and slings for the Sheriff’s Office. The purchase includes 30 Colt Commando 11.
