Tecumseh Approves Emergency Purchase Of Digger Truck

For the most part, the monthly Tecumseh City Council meeting was business as usual. However, the advertisement for bids for an Electric Department Digger truck to set utility poles was changed to an emergency basis, and the staff was authorized to negotiate a purchase not to exceed $275,000.

West Seikel Sidewalk, 8th Street Project Moving Forward

A single bid was received for the West Seikel Boulevard Crossing project. The bid was accepted and awarded, but the funding cap for the project was set at $100,000. However, with the creek crossing, City Manager Cody Roe stated they were not going to be able to complete the entire project.

Concurrent Enrollment at SSC Helps Students Earn College Credits

There is still time for high school juniors and seniors to enroll in concurrent classes at Seminole State College before the fall semester begins on Aug. 19, with late enrollment open until Aug. 23. Concurrent enrollment helps students earn college credit hours before their high school graduation.

County Approves Purchase Of New Buses For Wanette

Wanette Schools is getting two new— used, but new to them—school buses. The new Superintendent, Scott Douthit, presented the request to the Pottawatomie County Board of County Commissioners on Tuesday.Douthit said the school has not had a school bus for at least three years, maybe four.

For the second week in a row, local candidates, citizens and members of PAVE gathered at Shawnee’s City Hall for a candidate forum. This week’s forum was for the Shawnee Mayor race and Ward 2 Shawnee City Commission.
Shawnee Public Schools Executive Director of Operations Ron Stearns gives a presentation on the progress of tornado recovery projects to the Shawnee Board of Education on Aug. 5. He said they will have the new digital scoreboard installed at Jim Thorpe Stadium on Aug. 22, and they will have as much done on the stadium as possible before the first football game on Sept. 13.
