Almost One Year After Opening, Shawnee VA Clinic Holds Grand Re-Opening

It was almost deja vu. The original grand opening of the Shawnee Veterans Affairs (VA) Clinic was held on Oct. 21, 2022, and the Grand Re-opening of the clinic was held on Monday, Sept. 18. Located at 3700 N.

Dance Added To Farmhand Olympics In 14th Year

Since 2009, the Farmhand Olympics have been a way for agriculture students across Pottawatomie County to have fun together in friendly competition before showing their livestock or exhibits at the Pott. Co. Free Fair. This year, on Sept. 6, the Junior Fair Board members decided to add a dance.

Tecumseh Frontier Days Pageant Registers 41 Contestants

Tecumseh’s 46th Annual Frontier Days Pageant kicks off the Frontier Days events on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 3 pm at the Tecumseh High School Alumni Building. Registration for the pageant ended Sept. 6, with 41 contestants registered to compete.

Veterans Memorial Committee Tours Former Carnegie Library

Korean War veteran Tom Smith had a dream which has grown into the Woodland Veterans Park with several monuments, including the Oklahoma Veterans Wall and most recently, the Gold Star Families Memorial.

Alleged Cover Up At Pottawatomie County Public Safety Center

Pottawatomie County jail officials apparently defied state laws and a judge’s order when they concealed information on the unexplained deaths of seven vulnerable detainees. All seven people arrived at the jail with medical and mental health or substance use complications that required care.

SLT Opens Season With Hunchback Of Notre Dame

Shawnee Little Theatre (SLT) will begin its 56th year of producing live local theatre when the musical “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” opens Sept. 22 at the community theatre. Performances are Sept. 22, 23, 27, 28, 29, and 30 at 7:30 pm; and September 24 at 2 pm.

Broadway Chapel, The Scene Of “Seance”

Broadway Chapel, at 204 S. Broadway in Tecumseh, was built in 1905 as the First Presbyterian Church and is now a wedding and event venue, according to Google. But, on Sept. 8, the event was a film shoot for the silent short film, “Seance.

Tecumseh Teacher Resigns After Failing Sobriety Test At School

On Sept. 7, 2023, Tecumseh Police Department was called to Cross Timbers Elementary to conduct a sobriety test on Jennifer Davis. According to the press release from Tecumseh Public Schools, it was determined that Davis was “unfit for duty and escorted from the school by police.
