Last Week To Request Absentee Ballots

The deadline to request absentee ballots by mail is approaching. Applications must be received by the County Election Board no later than 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30, 2023.

United Way “Kiss the Pig” Fundraiser Begins

United Way of Pottawatomie County is hosting its 3rd annual “Kiss the Pig” fundraiser through February 28, 2023. Area residents are asked to vote for the candidate they would like to save from kissing a pig. Each $1 donation equals one vote.

The old Gibson building was being demolished last week but things went terribly wrong. The walls between the Gibson building and the business next door crumbled. The Past To Present Marketplace was posting photos to its Facebook page of new merchandise for Valentine’s Day on Jan. 23.

Bethel Approves $145,000 To Repair Gym Roof

Bethel School board accepted the low bid for the $965,000 building bonds for 2023 from Vision Bank. Four bids were presented with the winning bid being $128,869.35 with an average interest rate of 4.498058 percent. This was approved during the first of two special meetings held Monday, Jan. 23.

Since the start of the year, blood donations are substantially down, and fewer people are stepping up to donate. Now, Our Blood Institute asks the question, “Can our community come back to help us fight and save the humans?” While the message is tongue-in-cheek, the need is very real.
